I had a little visitor yesterday. She loved the beautiful Island Batik fabrics. She fell in love with this pink/purple fabric, and wished to make a drawstring bag for her hair ties and hair clips. I helped her with the pattern, cut the fabric and put my sewing machine on slow speed. She made this bag all alone, and she was really proud.

While I'm working with the first corner, I have to join some other hexies. It's growing, and I'm satisfied. If you should be tempted to start this project, jump over to Grit's Life, and there you may see other colour comboes, too.

Here's my inspiration for the colours in this quilt.

Scrap Happy Day i mars

On the blog Rutigt today you'll find links to many interesting blogs showing use of scraps. I've made many blocks the last months, and after six new ones this month, I've started to join them.

Men her er endelig neste hundre.

Just now I struggle with the corners, and try to plan where I should place the different fabrics. I've been colouring and cutting fabrics, and it takes time. But now the next hundred is here, and I can go on. I hope to have a corner done before May.

I've started Bonnie Hunter's mystery quilts four times. Three of them are in plastic bags more or less done. But the top on last year's mystery is finally finished and handed over to my long-arm quilter Sølvi Quiltestudio. When I get it back it will just need binding.

Furry Friday

It's the first Furry Friday, and if you don't know what that means, you have to read on. As an Island Batik Ambassador, we're making Kennel Quilts through The Small Kennel Quilt Team, a volunteer organization sponsored by The Quilt Pattern Magazine.

Here you can see my first Kennel quilt. You can read more about it here.

You can help The Small Kennel Quilt Team by making kennel quilts yourself. Information about the kennel quilt program is available on The Quilt Pattern Magazine website. The Quilt Pattern Magazine is sponsoring a Virtual Kennel Quilt Retreat March 18 and March 19th.

The other goal of Furry Fridays is to help the Petfinder Foundation adopt out cats and dogs in shelters across the U.S. This week Petfinder Foundation is highlighting two animals that are looking for their forever home.
Catnine lived a hard life before she was saved by Zeus’ Rescues in New Orleans: Both her leg and her jaw had been broken. Still, she adores people, and she’s ready for a loving home that will help her heal! You can click on her name to be taken to the Petfinder Foundation site to find more information about Catnine.

June is a gentle, house-trained 6-year-old gal who is comfortable around adults, children and other dogs, and even lived happily with a gecko! She’s waiting for a new family at Animal Care Centers of NYC in Manhattan. Click on her name to read more about June.

Both of the shelters that are taking care of Catnine and June have received kennel quilts through The Small Kennel Quilt Team. In addition to Island Batiks, The Quilt Pattern Magazine, and Petfinder Foundation, thank you to the kind people of Quilty Box  who are sponsoring this great event. Please take some time to read about these sweet babies, You can also make a kennel quilt for an animal in a shelter.

You can read more about this project on the orhter blogs participating. This week's bloggers are:

Béa et Cécile Quilt-a-Long

I tried to finish my top, too, but all the houses need roofs. So I have to use the weekend to get it done. Here are my last blocks, and all the blocks together. I'll show you the top as soon as it's ready.

Island Batik February Challenge - Kennel quilts

My first real project as an Island Batik Ambassador is a kennel quilt. I'm going to send this to the US tomorrow, and hope that it will be used by a sweet dog in a couple of weeks.

A kennel quilt is a small quilt made to fit in a basket for animals that have survived disasters. The size of this quilt is 12"x18", it has a soft batting, and no binding. I quilted a double seam at the outerr edge to make it strong.

I used three Island Batik fabrics in a roll, 5" width, just perfect for this project.

First I cut three stripes, 2,5"x18,5", and sewed them together.

The width now is 6,5".

Then I cut nine stripes, 2,5"x12,5" and sewed them together.

The stripes were joined together like this. That gave just the perfect size.

For the quilting I chose a variegated spool of Superior Threads.

I used small stitches, and not so much quilting in this project.

As I don't have a dog, I had to use another animal to test this kennel quilt. Think he liked it, at least.

I finished the next hundred, and took my La Passion out to play in the snow.
